Excellence in music: the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini. Concert on Sunday morning.
The Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, founded in 2002, is the point of excellence of the musical activity of the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini that has evolved artistically in the more than three decades of experience gleaned as the Orchestra Regionale dell'Emilia Romagna and in the old musical tradition which is directly connected with the ancient Orchestra Ducale established in Parma by Nicolò Paganini in 1835/36 and destined to become one of most prestigious orchestral ensemble in Italy.
Today one of the leading Italian symphony orchestras, the Filarmonica has performed under the direction of conductors of the caliber of Charles Dutoit, Dimitrij Kitajenko, Eliahu Inbal, Lawrence Foster, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Michail Jurowski, Emmanuel Krivine, Yoel Levi, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Zubin Mehta, Krzystof Penderecki, Michel Plasson, Georges Prêtre, Mstislav Rostropovich, Pinchas Steinberg, Muhai Tang, Jeffrey Tate e Yuri Temirkanov. Enthusiastic response of the public and critics has marked the debut and return performances of the orchestra in the major concert halls throughout the world, in cities such as Washington D.C., Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Strasbourg, Hamburg, Moscow, Luzern, Budapest, Bucharest, Warsaw, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing, Shanghai.
In Italy, the concert given on January 16, 2008 will long remain in the memories of all, the date in which the orchestra, making its triumphant debut at La Scala, closed the national celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the death of Arturo Toscanini.
Among the numerous soloists with which the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini has had the privilege of performing are Maxim Vengerov, Stanislav Bunin, Misha Maisky, Mariella Devia, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Mike Patton, Lucio Dalla, Uto Ughi, Salvatore Accardo, Marco Rizzi, Steven Isserlis, Boris Petrushansky, Juan Diego Flórez, Sonia Ganassi, Sergej Krylov, Natalia Gutman, Stefano Bollani, Danilo Rea, Sharon Isbin, Shlomo Mintz, Mario Brunello, Ivo Pogorelich.
A process of on-going innovation in its musical program and of intellectual curiosity, together with a rigorous artistic approach, has recently led to a broadening of its repertory that ranges from the classics of the 19th century and musical frontiers of the 20th century, up to current-day avant-garde works. Accompanying this initiative has been the invitation extended to a new group of conductors, all part of the younger generation, already acclaimed on an international level: Kazushi Ono, Vladimir Jurowski, Carlo Rizzi, Tugan Sokhiev, Juraj Valčuha, Tomas Netopil, Michele Mariotti, Lawrence Renes, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Tan Dun, Asher Fisch, Darrell Ang, Wayne Marshall, Stéphane Dèneve, Christian Arming, Pietari Inkinen, John Axelrod and James Conlon.
